Taragarh Fort Bundi: A Walk Through History
January 5, 20256 min read

Rising above the city of Bundi like a guardian, Taragarh Fort (Star Fort) is one of the most impressive structures in Rajasthan. Built in 1354 AD, its zigzagging battlements and massive gateways tell tales of valor and chivalry.
Architectural Brilliance
Unlike many other forts in Rajasthan that are built on flat land, Taragarh is carved into the hillside. The steep climb is rewarded with stunning views of the blue-painted houses of Bundi and the Naval Sagar Lake below.
Key Attractions Inside
- Bhim Burj: A massive bastion that once mounted the famous cannon 'Garbh Gunjam' (Thunder from the Womb).
- Water Reservoirs: The fort has three tanks that never dry up, a testament to ancient engineering.
- Rani Mahal: Though in ruins, it shows the grandeur of the past with its stained glass windows and murals.
Visitor Information
The climb is steep, so wear comfortable shoes. It takes about 40 minutes to hike up from the town center. Carry water!
